Sentences

Alan is going on an overnight trip with the men's group at the church. They all arrive this evening. They'll eat wings and talk, probably compare Honey Do lists or something manly like that. In the morning, they will prepare breakfast and they work off some testosterone shooting clay or skeet or something another. I'm glad he's going. I'm sure they will have a great time.

Will and Larissa got "chair rankings" in band. Larissa got 5th chair in flute. There was only 1.5 points separating 1st - 5th chair. She is so excited. She practices probably an hour a day. Poor cat, he hates the sounds that come out of that flute! Will got 1st chair in percussion. He's excited too. He beat out his friend Andrew by 1/5 a point! They both are talking about trying out for Regionals. Honestly, I have no idea what that really means except they play a solo, have to learn some new stuff, and a bunch of terms. I'm sure they will both do well.

The leaves are falling. The cat is trying to sleep on my laptop again. We turn the gas logs on in the early morning and evening to knock the chill off the house since I haven't broken down and turned the central heat on yet.

Christmas is 44 days away. I have a good start, but, no where near finished. Thanksgiving plans are made and Christmas plans are in the works.

I'm looking forward to my mom's birthday. Lynn and I are going to spend the night with her and then have a girls' day with lunch and shopping. We hope to make it a tradition.

Random Act of Kindness

Everyone knows how much I LOVE Chick-Fil-A. I could eat there every day. Seriously. This morning Will helped me with some "man chores" so I told him I'd treat him to CFA breakfast. As I pulled thru the drivethru, the owner, who knows me by face, said "I'm so glad its you!".
Huh?
She said I'd won the Random Act of Kindness. My meal was FREE!
WOW! I have never been on the receiving end of something like that. I have, several times, paid for the meal of the person behind me at a drivethru, but, never received one. Our local CFA does this every so often and today, I WON!!!
I can't wait to pay it forward!!

Family Update

Since its been over 2 years.....
Me:  Same ole same ole I guess. Still working from home. Still loving the flexibility and know that I'm blessed. Hobbies? Gosh, I need some. I meet my friend for breakfast once a week. I drive the kids to school, sports, clubs. Does that count? I read blogs. I lurk on Facebook. I have just discovered Pinterest. .....I'll get back to you

Alan:  Still teaching 9th grade. Still complaining! LOL  He in trying to become more involved with the mens' group at the church. They have a weekly Bible study and they go on outings. He puts in alot of time practicing guitar, which is his passion right now.

Brenna:  A SENIOR nursing study at Shorter College in Rome. GA.  I'll be the first to admit, I never expected her to follow through with this. She seems to love it. She is beautiful and so smart. She's staying focused on studying, but has a good mix of friends and fun. She definitely seems to have her priorities in the right place.

Larissa: 7th grade. Stays busy with friends, cheerleading, tumbling, swimming, band (flute), and BETA club. I do my best to steer her away from of the drama scene. Girls are hard! Larissa is about 60.5 inches and weighs 105#.

Will: 7th grade. Stays busy with friends, X-box, swimming, band (drums), and BETA club. He just got picked for student of the month. He just finished his 1st year of swimming with the high school swim team. Back in May of the year, he could barely swim one lap. In one of his last swim meets, he swam a 500yd event. That's TWENTY laps folks! Yeap, he's come a long way. Will is about 56 inches and weighs about 73#.

Facebook craze and such....

I am slowly becoming addicted to FaceBook. I joined last year or so just to keep up with Brenna. I'd sign on every couple weeks to peek at the new pictures Brenna had posted. A few months ago I heard word that our church had a FB page. What? really? Yeap, so, I checked it out and joined. Then I saw others in the NBUMC group and I asked them to "be my friend". Then I noticed that I knew some of their friends, etc etc etc. I don't have 400+ friends like Brenna, but, I am finding FB to be fun and a cool way to catch up with old high school "friends" and others that I've lost contact with along the way.

One of the many things I remember about my dad is the way he would "sign words". I can picture him sitting in his chair watching tv and his fingers just a-going. He would often sign the words (with ASL letters) he was hearing on tv. Well, Larissa has learned the ASL letters and guess what she does? Yeap, she signs. She doesn't sign words (yet), but, she has developed a habit of just repeating the alphabet over and over again. She doesn't even realize she's doing it. I was trying to paint her nails the other night and she could not keep her fingers still. I think its kinda cool that she does that!

Brag time on Will - he brought home a letter stating he qualified for the Duke TIP program. This is for 4th graders that scored in the top 5% of the school district. I am so proud. He actually scored in the top 95% in both Math and Science. I guess he gets his brains from Alan. Funny, Will has two best friends, Adam & William. They both are in the top 5% too. AWESOME.

Will had an "incident" at school this week. In music class, they were singing a song and doing a funny dance I guess. The last lines of the song say something like "choke on bubblegum". The music teacher told the kids to NOT put their hands around their neck. Well.....next thing she knows, Will goes falling off the risers, hits his head, his arms are shaking, face is red/purple. Will doesn't remember falling and he says he did not choke himself. He says he was just trying to make his face red. I think he held his breath, got dizzy, fell and hit his head which caused him to black out for a minute or so. It was at the end of the day so they pulled Alan out of the pickup line and explained what happened. He had a big knot on his head and we observed him for signs of brain swelling, etc. He is fine, thankfully!!! WHEW!

I'm not a good blogger huh?

I read so many blogs, but I can't seem to ever post on MY OWN blog!
Thanksgiving and Christmas are over. I am so ashamed to say that I did not take ONE SINGLE PICTURE at Christmas this year. ::SHOCK::: Yes, I know. (bowing my head in shame here). Brenna came up for several days before Christmas but she wanted to get back home to spend Christmas with "the boyfriend". Alan took her, Will, and Larissa snow skiing at Sugar Mountain while she was here. W&L did ski school while A&B skied together. It was cold (4 degrees), but no wind, so it was bearable. Everyone enjoyed themselves and we hope to be able to go again this season. I hope to go with them next time. I'll have to dig out my knee brace and back brace! LOL Yes, I am getting old. I haven't skied (water or snow) since the kids were born.

Christmas Eve, we went to Chrissy's house (Alan's sister). We had a meal and gift exchange. Christmas Day was just the 4 of us. We got up, opened gifts, had a big breakfast and then went to the movies. I choose the "Marley & Me" movie. I'd only seen the tv previews, but they seemed harmless enough. OMG - the movie was rated PG, but had alittle too many bad words, hanky panky references in it. Oh, and it is SO SAD. The poor lady behind me was sobbing. Yes, I cried too.

The Saturday after Christmas, I hosted my annual "family spagetti dinner" here at the house. Brenna came back for one night so she could be here. That really made my day that she came back. In addition to the 5 of us, we had my mom, sister, brother-in-law, niece, nephew, cousin, and 3 aunts. My niece's husband had to work so he couldn't make it. Will was disappointed - he wanted to challenge Cy to a game of Guitar Hero. I was disappointed that my Uncle Steve didn't come. Steve, if you are reading this, I hope you had a good holiday! Email me sometime.

Tomorrow is the last day of 2008. We were invited to a friend's house for a casual NYE party. Kids are invited too. Alan said "Well, since we'll be around other people, maybe we can manage to stay up til midnight!". Yeap, my thoughts exactly. I will probably take a nap just in case. My idea of NYE party is to usually fall asleep on the couch until the 1 minute countdown starts on the tv.

I have a few goals for 2009, but that'll have to wait til another post. Will and Alan are playing Nerf Blaster on the Wii. I need to go join the fun.

Blessings to all,
Lysa
